Abstract

This study aims to describe: 1) the folklore character 'Wak Wang' according to student assessment; 2) the theme of the folklore 'Wak Wang' according to student assessment; 3) the mandate of the folklore 'Wak Wang' according to student assessment. This descriptive research took place in May 2023 using a qualitative method. The population of this study were students of class X and XI SMA Negeri 2 Senayang. They numbered 50 students; 26 students of class X and 24 students of class XI. The sample was determined as many as 45 students based on the formula developed by Slavin. Members of each sample group were selected randomly using a technique without returning members of the population group. The research instrument was in the form of a non-test, namely a questionnaire via Google form based on online journal scientific articles. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical procedures, namely the frequency distribution synthesized using the mode principle. The results of the study show that: 1) the main character of the folklore 'Wak Wang' according to student assessments is Wak Wang and the supporting character is Wang; 2) the main theme of the folklore 'Wak Wang' according to student assessments is perseverance and the overriding theme is loving pets; 3) the main message of the folklore 'Wak Wang' according to the students' assessment is to be a person who always works diligently and the supporting message is to love pets.
