The aim of this research is to describe: 1) the associative meaning of the word 'kerat pepat=vertical cutting' from the perspective of kitchen traditions and literary traditions in Malay culture; 2) the associative meaning of the word 'kerat siring-diagonal cutting' from the perspective of kitchen traditions and literary traditions in Malay culture. This descriptive research uses the library method which will take place in early 2024. Observation guidelines and questionnaires are the instruments in this research; each instrument is validated by the expert team with a progressive scoring system. To collect associative meaning data based on the literary tradition in Malay culture, namely the folklore with the title Sikatimono which contains the theme of kitchen traditions. Therefore, data was collected on the folklore entitled Sekatimono in the collection of folklore about the Patahnya Gunung Daik. To validate the results of data collection and analysis, a questionnaire instrument was used. A closed instrument that applies a 1-5 value scale (a simplification of the 1-10 value scale) using a progressive system. The results of research on the word square cut conceptually are cutting, namely cutting an object into a shorter size at a position of 90 degrees; in Sikamono folklore it is said that a mother has 100 children; 99 normal children and the youngest in the form of a snake named Sikatimono. Before going to a place to earn a living, their parents provide side dishes for all the children which their children can enjoy at mealtime. The side dish is fish which is diagonal cutting specifically for the youngest, it is snake namely Sikatimono, while the fish wich is vertical cutting is serve for the 99 normal children. This concept of meaning is inherent in every Malay community so that they are amused to eat every side dish that is cut into pepat in contemporary restaurants as an association that the side dish is prepared for the snake.
